The Beauty of Helichrysum (Immortelle)

Above is a picture of Helichrysum also referred to as Everlasting or Immortelle. I have been growing it in a canvas pot for about six months and it is now flowering. (Helichrysum italicum) or (Helichyrsum angustifolia) (L.) DC is in the daisy family also called the Asteraceae family. Helichrysum is generally found in the Mediterranean. It is sometimes referred to as curry plant because the aroma of the leaves resemble curry. The essential oil reminds me of walking near the river bottom here in Ojai. The dusty sandy soil held together by sages, mulefats, silk tassels, mugworts, and deerweed with Oaks scattered throughout. I can not help but smell the aromas from my occasional brush with the plants, the high heat releasing their fragrance across the trail and into the world around me. Like the California native plants; Helichrysum shares herbaceous, camphoraceus and sweet qualities. As a plant it is beautiful to look at and easy to grow. As an essential oil I find it to be quiet and understated for its powerful penetrating effects. The essential oil is steam distilled from the flowering tops and is considered a base note in blending. When I work with any blend or single note essential oil, I put a few drops in a carrier oil and rub it on specific areas of my body.  With Helichrysum I focus on areas of tension, by massaging it into the base of my neck and temples. Then I cup my hands over my nose and take several long inhalation and exhalations. For me personally, Helichrysum goes deep right away. It wastes no time opening up my energetic body in a grounded and peaceful way, giving me full clarity and expansion in the present. Simultaneously it lifts stress from my physical body.

Today I highlighted Helichrysum because of my reverence for its gifts in the Moss Botanicals "Relief" blend. *Note: This is not a cure,  a diagnostic, or a substitute for serious medical attention.
