A Natural History of the Senses
"A flower's fragrance declares to all the world that it is fertile, available, and desirable, its sex organs oozing with nectar. Its smell reminds us in vestigial ways of fertility, vigor, life-force, all the optimism, expectancy, and passionate bloom of youth. We inhale its ardent aroma and, no matter what our ages, we feel young and nubile in a world aflame with desire." - Diane Ackerman
Inspired by the sexual parts of flowers.
Pistil & Stamen can be worn together or on their own.
I prefer them together. These aromas elicit deep complexity when layered on top of one another. They are considered 'Natural Perfumes' because they are in a base of jojoba oil instead of perfumers alcohol. The purpose of creating Pistil & Stamen was to be 'the flower' and to feel the natural world within and around us. Pistil and Stamen are extraordinarily unique and expansive. In the botanical world the overall purpose of a flower is for a plant to be able to reproduce sexually. Did you know that a flower with both female and male parts is called a "Perfect Flower" and is also referred to as bisexual? A perfect flower is able to reproduce on its own. An "Imperfect Flower" is missing male or female parts and relies on cross-pollination for reproduction.
Plants with imperfect flowers have two types of flowers; some contain male structures producing pollen and others contain female structures producing eggs and seeds. Cross-pollination supports genetic diversity and genetic diversity supports the survival of a species.
The female reproductive organ of the flower. It is at the center of the flower; produces ovules and consists of the stigma, style, and ovary. The stigma captures pollen.
